The Movie Time Machine

I drew inspiration from the renowned Steam Clock in Gastown, Vancouver, built in the 19th century by engineer John Inshaw from Birmingham. I saw tremendous potential in showcasing the intricate movements of the Steam Clock when crafting my unique representation of The Time Machine.

Using only macro lenses, I extracted a story from the mechanism inside the Steam Clock. I extracted a narrative from the clock's mechanism, aiming to merge it with motion to create a unique title sequence.

I hope that this visual experience provides you with an enjoyable cinematic journey.

THE TIME MACHINE

MOTION TITLE SEQUENCE

Based on the novel by H.G.Wells, this is my abstract interpretation for a fictitious Title Sequence.

Published in 1895, The Time Machine is a science fiction novella by H. G. Wells written as a frame narrative. The novella discusses the concept of time travel by using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposely and selectively forwards or backwards in time. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle.

When creating this short movie, I was inspired by the old Steam Clock in Gastown, which was built in the 19th century by John Inshaw, an engineer from Birmingham, to demonstrate the versatility of steam power. The movement–the mechanism that measures the passage of time and displays the current time–is the heart of any clock. I saw great potential in displaying these movements when creating my unique representation of The Time Machine.

I had some sleepless nights, but definitely had a lot of fun creating this. Hope you all like it!
